Reliv - How the Journey Began

In order to understand Reliv - we need to understand how and why the Reliv Company was established in 1988.

In the 1980's the Montgomery family was dealing with a very sad time. With a very short time Bob's mother died of breast cancer and Sandy's father passed away from heart disease. This heart breaking time truly transformed the Montgomery family to this day. They were already trying to take care of themselves, taking nutritional products and investigating the connection between good health and the nutritional value we put into our bodies. Their focus turned to a mindset to prevent disease and they educated themselves by attending health fairs and seminars.

In the mid 1980's they attended a class where they med Dr. Theodore Kalogris. He was a World War II veteran and was injured in that war. After being told he would never live without pain and would probably be in a wheelchair for life he returned to the United States. Reliv really began then. Dr. Kalogris went to work educating himself and earned many degrees in the fields of microbiology and other sciences. He had a strong belief that our bodies were truly meant to work and heal if it was given the correct tools to work with. His goal was to reduce his pain and get out of that wheelchair. For over 10 years, he worked on a formulation of nutrients to help his body heal. He experimented with hundreds of different combinations and came up with a blend of 72 different minerals, herbs, vitamins and amino acids that he saw improve his health in a remarkable way.

Because of the results he saw, he started sharing with others and they too were seeing amazing results and improvements in their health.

Two of these people were Bob and Sandy Montgomery. They tried these products for themselves. The Montgomery's were taking supplements in pill form, which he found later was not very efficient. It made sense to him that a liquid form would be more available to his body. It wasn't long until the Montgomery family was seeing that Dr Kalogris's Complete Total Nutrition (CTN) was working better for them. CTN later became our flagship product - Reliv Classic. For about three years Bob really saw how powerful this new source of nutrition was and it became of great value to him and to his family. It was around that 2-3 year time frame when the doctors diagnosed Bob with a brain tumor that had probably been there for a while but needed to be removed. Bob was looking at weeks or many months of recovery from this surgery. The benign tumor was removed. But what impressed Bob was his recovery from the surgery and his doctors were amazed as well. Instead of months of recovery and days in ICU, Bob was released from the hospital within a week of his surgery. He knows it was the great nutrition that he had been taking for three years.

Being retired from the Insurance industry as a young man of 38, Bob was secure financially and wasn't in need of a job, but he felt that this product needed to be distributed to help others. Bob was convinced that this product needed to not only be shared with others but that the way it was shared was important as well. He knew it needed a personal approach and Reliv was born.

In 1988, Reliv's first patent on Dr. Ted's original formula (CTN) was granted and we call that Reliv Classic today. (view Classic's patent) At the beginning of the Company's history, Dr. Carl Hastings, a world famous food scientist and soy expert joined Reliv and worked closely with Dr. Ted to add more products and enhance the products in the Reliv line. Dr. Hastings has been awarded an addition of 5 patents for Reliv developing targeted solutions for a wide range of health concerns.Dr. Hastings along with his scientific team and scientific advisory board promote clinical trials on the Reliv Products. Trials have been completed by independent researchers proving astounding results during those trials from people taking the Reliv Products. Reliv also has adopted the standards set by the TGA Australian authorities which have strict manufacturing quality control standards which are stricter than the U.S. standards. This has helped to validate the credibility of the Reliv products. These products are nourishing bodies around the world making a wonderful change in the minds, bodies and spirits of thousands of people.
